We simply cannot thank Ruth & Julie enough for their help last week, getting my dear mum (and grandmother 'Nan') home from Blackburn Hospital to her own home to spend the last precious days of her life in her own bed surrounded by all who loved her. Mum was 96. When the NHS ambulances were estimating at least a wait time of 5 to 6 hours for transport, Julie & Ruth were able to provide us with the help that we needed and responded almost instantly. They arrived on the hospital ward with all the equipment needed, within an hour of calling them. Their 'can do' attitude was such a relief! Together they swiftly and safely transported mum from her hospital bed, to their ambulance, and drove her safely & comfortably back to her own home. We felt that mum was extremely safe in their hands as they are both professionally qualified and experienced. Their warmth & compassion throughout the whole time was a massive comfort & reassurance to us at this precarious time. They happily invited two of us to travel with mum so we were with her every second of that journey. We all witnessed the relief on mum's face when she was home, which is where she wanted to be. Mum died three days later having had the love of her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and family surrounding her during those precious final days & hours. with her. Thank you so very much. I hope people will support Ruth & Julie in developing their service Unity so that other people can benefit from this invaluable 'Last Wishes & Special Journey Ambulance' service.
Hello all. We are a brand new company called Unity and we would like to purchase a vehicle and equipment that we can adapt to meet the needs of people that are palliative and at end of life in order to transport them on their final or special journeys. That may be hospital to home, home to hospice, a day out or special event they wish to attend. We want to transport people to achieve their final wishes and be at their side throughout providing the best care possible. We are a team consisting of Paramedics and District Nurses. We had the privilege of transporting a beautiful lady from Christie’s to her son’s wedding in an ambulance that was kindly donated to us for the day. This absolutely inspired us even more to get this service up and running. In all our years working for the NHS we have never done anything as rewarding as this. Any donations would be most welcome.
